One of standouts on the Long After Dark album, "Change of Heart" provided the band with yet another Top 40 hit in 1982. A great power chord riff pattern showcases Tom Petty's love of the Kinks' riffs, and although this is the main hook, Petty's exquisite bridge and chorus is indeed a product of his own originality. Lyrically, it is another one of Petty's "farewell" songs, this time laying down the law for a departing lover. Another "lost classic" of the band's early-'80s period, it made a great addition to the excellent 2000 anthology, Through the Years. -- Matthew Greenwald (allmusic.com)
